Abstract

AbstractA model was developed to determine the constitution of step‐growth polymers synthesized from the nonsymmetric monomers XabX and YcdY under various modes of mixing. Depending upon the inherent kinetics of the system and the modes of addition of monomers, polymer constitution can be varied over wide ranges. Results are shown for single‐stage polymerizations with all variations of kinetic parameters and mixing modes. The results show that the synthesis of truly “random” polymers is very difficult with this monomer system.
