Abstract

The composition of the essential oil of Khavi grass, Cymbopogon jawarancusa, was investigated by glass capillary gas chromatography in combination with mass spectrometry. Sixty-four compounds were identified, 55 of which are reported for the first time. The oil contains a high percentage of piperitone (60–70%), which is mainly responsible for the smell of Khavi grass.
