Abstract

Five crystalline compounds have been isolated from the leaves of the oriental medicinal plant Aglaia odorata Lour. (Meliaceae). One of these (agliol) is a tetracyclic triterpene, C 30H 50O 2, which according to chemical reactions and spectra is shown to possess structure I. This formula was confirmed by correlation with a derivative from dammaradienyl acetate (VII).
