Abstract

The course on Constitution and Democracy taught at the University of the Andes, Colombia, was established to educate responsible, critical citizens by enabling an understanding of the constitutional framework of the country and the laws it enshrines. Teaching staff from the Schools of Law and Economics and from the Department of Political Science prepared the book in order to contribute to the same aims. Its 24 chapters encourage students to develop analytical, critical and creative thinking. Numerous exercises explore the topics in depth, encouraging reflection and debate; reading guides are also provided, alongside suggested classroom materials and glossaries which, taken together, make the book an extremely useful teaching aid.
