Abstract

This paper deals with a constant DC-capacitor voltage-control-based strategy of a bidirectional battery-charger (BBC) for electric vehicles (EVs) in actual single-phase three-wire distribution feeders (SPTWDFs), where multiple domestic consumers are connected on the secondary side of the pole-mounted distribution transformer. The instantaneous power flow into the three-leg pulse-width modulated rectifier in the BBC reveals that balanced and sinusoidal source currents with a unity power factor (PF) are obtained on the source side in the SPTWDF connected to only one domestic consumer that is equipped with a BBC, whereas unbalanced and distorted currents are remained in the SPTWDF connected to the other domestic consumers. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that balanced and sinusoidal currents with a unity PF are obtained in the domestic consumer that is equipped with a BBC.
