Abstract

Jean-Luc Jamard, The Consumption of Slaves and the Production of ? Races ? : The Caribbean Experience. ? Because Caribbean societies were ? created ? out of imported populations and plantations slavery, scholars of West Indies studies are sensitive to this very special history. West Indies anthropology cannot neglect making a comparative and ? transformist ? analysis. After a model of Caribbean slavery in the area is presented, an intra-Caribbean comparison is made between types of slavery, their changes, abolition and effects. The consequences on the dynamics of social ? races ? and classes in West Indian society are then interpreted.
