Abstract

This article presents a conservative and consistent implementation of higher-order convection schemes such as the second-order upwind (SOU) and the quadratic upwind interpolation for convective kinematics (QUICK) schemes, and systematic comparison of four convection schemes with the available benchmark solution for various two-dimensional, steady-state, lid-driven cavity flow problems. All these schemes are formulated on Cartesian, nonorthogonal and nonstaggered grid sizes varying from 20 × 20 to 80 × 80 at various Reynolds numbers. The QUICK scheme converges to a grid-independent solution with substantially fewer grid points, requires least computational time for a given level of accuracy, and its accuracy remains almost constant with increasing Reynolds number.
