Abstract
A study of the π- π scattering amplitudes and of the so-called σ-term leads to current algebra consistency conditions which seem to require the existence of a σ-meson. The effect of such a meson on π- π scattering is studied. Solutions obtained for the scattering lengths are in excellent agreement with the latest experimental determination from K and ν decays.
