Abstract

In the case of monopolar dc corona discharge on practical transmission lines owing to the uneven distribution of electric charges around the conductor in corona, which leads to an intense distortion of the electric field, theDeutsch assumption cannot be taken into consideration, as it demonstrates that the electric field pattern does not change after the appearance of the discharge. This assumption has been applied by different investigators in calculating the monopolar dc corona loss. This paper suggests a modification: to take distortion into account in calculating monopolar dc corona loss on practical lines. The results calculated were found to be in agreement with the experimental data as compared with the previous calculations.
