Abstract
Like many nations, Australia is currently weighing numerous options regarding privacy legislation. The Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) has released a 2,000-page review of Australian privacy law, in which it proposes several changes that would significantly shift the balance between freedom of speech and privacy in Australia because they would extend to the media and private individuals as well as governments and businesses - especially important because Australia has no express right of free speech.
