Abstract

We read with great interest the recent study “Superiority of Self-Expandable Metallic Stents Over Plastic Stents in Treatment of Malignant Distal Biliary Strictures” by Jang et al,1 which analyzed clinical data from 2147 patients with malignant biliary stricture and proposed that self-expandable metallic stents (SEMS) should be offered as first-line endoscopic treatment options for malignant distal biliary strictures, and that SEMS were attractive alternatives to plastic stents (PS) in malignant hilar strictures.
