Abstract

Toward the end of 2019 Canada will legalize the sale of edible products containing cannabis. In the light of this impending legislation, it seems appropriate to explore some of the issues likely to arise when cannabis is added to fine chocolate. Cannabis is currently added to many edible chocolate products in American states that allow the legal sale of edibles. Medical cannabis chocolate products are already available in Canada as well as a significant gray market in recreational edibles. In this brief review we discuss some factors around the introduction of cannabis products into fine chocolate, look briefly at the metabolism of edibles, the introduction of forms of cannabis into fine chocolate and some safety concerns around the addition of plant material into edible products.
