Abstract

AbstractThe neoclassical (NC) transport analyses have been performed to elucidate the plausible approaches towards higher ion‐temperature heliotron plasmas. Avoidance of the ripple transport is the key issue, for which the neoclassical ambipolar radial electric field (Er) can be utilized. The ion‐root scenario and the electron‐root scenario are expected to be effective according to the experimental situation (especially, the temperature ratio between ions and electrons). The impact of the ion mass on the neoclassical ambipolar Er is also investigated to reveal the easier realization of electron‐root Er in heavier ion plasmas (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
