Abstract
The authors have proposed and made a hydrogen supply system for FCHEV. This system can generate large amount of hydrogen by hydrolysis of powdery sodium borohydride (NaBH4). In the proposed system, the hydrolysis reaction rate is low even under the presence of nickel catalyst when the temperature is low. As a solution of this problem, until now, an acid solution like as citric acid is added until its temperature reached near 50℃. However, in the case of using the citric acid, an impurity like citrate is produced. Thus, it is desired to generate hydrogen without using the citric acid when the temperature is low. Therefore, in this research, a boric acid (H3BO3) as a new acid accelerator was considered in order not to product the impurity. Through experiments, we confirmed that hydrogen could generate continuously and the solution temperature could increase until the target temperature with using the boric acid when the temperature was low.
