Abstract

The tourism development of a region requires a number of entrepreneurial actions that diversify the services offered, amplify the multiplier effect of visitor spending and contribute to a greater role of the community as an active agent of the new productive processes that the activity triggers. This article presents considerations on the relationship between entrepreneurship and tourism in the region of the Lower Sao Francisco River, between the states of Alagoas and Sergipe. This is an exploratory research that used the procedures of bibliographic review, observation and semi-structured interviews with professionals from different segments of the tourism chain (tourism guides, managers, fishermen, businessmen, tourists and natives). The paper concludes that, in spite of the region's potential for tourism, there is no articulation between the business initiatives and of them with the different bodies responsible for the planning and management of the destinations, which points to the need for a closer approximation between the public authority, the university, private companies and local leaderships so that the effects of these initiatives can bring the expected benefits.
