Abstract

In this text, we aim at presenting and discussing concept(s) of literacy(ies) as social practiced in the basic education for language teachers. With this aim, we will present the levels of literacy in the Portuguese language in Brazil through national assessments (Prova Brasil and SAEB) and international one (PISA). Taking considerations about the effects of contemporaneity in the school literacy practices, we will mention, eventually, critical scientific literacy issue to the basic education and its conceptions.
