Abstract

A Florida district court judge recently ruled that competitive video gaming, known as esports, actually isn’t a sport for the purposes of Title IX. And because of his Feb. 17, 2023 finding, Judge Carlos Mendoza of the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Florida, Orlando Division, ordered the Florida Institute of Technology to return its men's rowing team to the status of a varsity sport.
