Conservative Approach to Facial Liposuction: A New Method

Abstract

At the annual meeting of American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Chicago, Sept 19, 1987, Pierre F. Giammanco, MD, Bloomfield Hills, Mich, discussed liposuction of the face. The author stated that liposuction of the face should be conservative as compared with the neck, where it can be more aggressive. Too much liposuction of the face can cause marking, grooving, and depression. Dr Giammanco believes that this is probably related to instrumentation. He advocates using small cannulas such as the No. 3 or No. 4 Fenno cannula and a small harvester such as a 13-gauge harvester. In addition, with the small harvester you can actually sculpt the face and quantitate the amount of fat removed so that symmetry can be maintained.
