Abstract

In this case the European Court of Justice was asked whether an individual providing full-time nursing care in her home for her spouse fell within the scope of the working population for the purposes of Directive 79/7. The resulting judgment is instructive for what it reveals about both the Court's views as to what constitutes work, and its misapprehension as to the traditional scope of social security schemes.
