Abstract

Nine wooden artifacts excavated from the Bongseon-ri site in Seocheon were deteriorated and frail. Therefore, to prevent deformation and damage, conservation treatment was performed through dimensional stabilization. As a result of tree species analysis before conservation treatment, it was identified as 3 Hardpine, 2 Alnus Japonica, 2 Castanea spp., 1 Cerris Section, and 1 Zelkova serrata. For the conservation treatment, wooden artifacts were impregnated with PEG#3,350 in water solution with 40% concentration and performed by freeze-drying. Artifacts that have been preserved were judged to be living tools such as farming and containers compared to those of other historical sites.
