Abstract
Many botanic gardens now have tissue culture laboratories for the micropropagation of plants that are difficult to propagate by conventional horticultural techniques. In many cases the work centers on rare and endangered species. Examples of the use of different techniques including micropropagation, in vitro seed germination, dual culture with symbiotic fungi, and regeneration from callus are discussed with reference to their application to plant germplasm conservation.
