Abstract

Distributions of the rare and endangered algae species of Mongolia have been checked overlapping with special protected area of Mongolia, and assumed that 63.4% of the total rare and endangered species is partially protected within the protected areas. It is determined that 24.3% of the rare and endangered algae species are in Strictly Protected Areas, 43.9% are in National Parks, 4.8% are in Nature Reserves and 2.4% are in Natural and Historical Monuments. For 15 species of rare and endangered algae their habitat is not yet even partially protected. We suggest some lakes such as Buir, Khukh and Taatsyn Tsagaan should be included in special protection area of Mongolia, considering the biology, ecology and distribution of Chara gobiana and Oedogonium itzigsohnii species and some other species.
