Abstract

Abstract This book contains 12 chapters providing details on conservation and management of tropical rain forests. Chapter 1 describes tropical rain forest ecosystem, land cover, habitat, resource; Chapter 2 explores the use of rain forests; Chapter 3 discusses sustainable forestry in rain forests; and Chapter 4 presents principles and strategies of sustainability. Further, Chapter 5, 6, 7 and 8 provides details on the tortuous road towards forest sustainability in the tropical rain forest; naturalistic close-to-nature forestry management in tropical rain forests; avoiding forest degradation or upgrading degraded forest ecosystems; and short-rotation tree plantations, respectively. Finally, the last four chapters explore forest management (Chapter 9); certification of forest management and timber origin (Chapter 10); forestry in the tropical rain forest (Chapter 11); and quo vadis silva tropica humida, quo vadis nos? (Chapter 12).
