Abstract

Much of the riparian formations in southern Brazil was eliminated, and those that remain are degraded and fragmented. Aiming to verify the viewpoint of the farms of small portions of land for preservation and restoration of riparian ecosystem and as such position may interfere with the conservation and recovery of the same, interviews were conducted with a group of small farmers occupying watershed stream Ajuricaba in the municipality of Marechal Cândido Rondon - PR. We performed an informal approach with the aid of a script of open questions, seeking to characterize the socioeconomic profile of respondents and outline the concepts and opinions forward the conservation and restoration of riparian vegetation. The results were analyzed according to quantitative and qualitative approaches. Farmers interviewed are willing to restore riparian vegetation to their property, but for that to happen they need an incentive, this may be financial, manpower or equipment needed.
