Abstract
Due to the increasing requirements with respect to sludge disposal, the additional waste activated sludge production of the physical-chemical or the enhanced biological phosphorus removal process is a significant factor for the overall operating costs. The main mechanisms of waste activated sludge production as a consequence of phosphorus removal for both the physical-chemical and the enhanced biological phosphorus removal process are discussed.
