Abstract

The ground state of a mu -mesonic atom of non-zero nuclear spin I is split by the hyperfine interaction into two states, of total angular momenta F = I plus or minus 1/2. Following a discussion and a suggested experiment by Bernstein, Lee, Yang, and Primakoff, the experimental Fonsequences of atomic conversion processes are explored which may not be negligible in situations of actual physical interest.
