Abstract

Family is one of the most fundamental and universal social system of mankind. It is the family where social life of person starts. The present study was conducted in two districts of Punjab viz Ludhiana and Sangrur. The data were collected personally from the respondents. The study revealed that there is certain changes in structural and functional aspects of the family in rural areas of Punjab. The study revealed that many factors like urbanization, education, materialism, less income, increased show off culture, lack of time were responsible for changing family. Further, the study revealed many consequences of changing family institution. Among those consequences, changing authority, increasing family conflicts, increasing social evils, increasing problems of aged, and children were the major ones. Overall, it was concluded that today's technological era has left family institution far behind. This situation led to many social problems as well which need to be checked before it is too late.
