Abstract
The author of this article, which is a synthesis of a book based on an empirical study conducted between 1995 and 1997, mainly discusses the following questions: (1) the history of the Hare Krishna movement in Hungary; (2) the recruitment of Hungarian Krishna believers; (3) motives for joining the movement; (4) adherence or conversion to the Krishna movement? (5) a comparison of the values of Krishna believers with those of other religions; (6) the relationship between Krishna believers and wider (Hungarian) society; (7) the dialogue between Hungarian Krishna believers and Hungarian and European cultures.
