Abstract

AbstractPurpose To discuss benefits and risks of steroids use in optic neuritis.Methods Analysis of evidence based studiesResults Steroids do not influence the final visual acuity in patients with optic neuritis. Their possible adverse effects will be discussed in detail.Conclusion Intravenous steroids might be considered in the treatment of optic neuritis after detailed examination of patient’s general health status and when possible benefits overcome the risks of adverse effects.
