Abstract

The European Commission's Mission on Cancer (Conquering cancer: mission possible) proposal 1 European CommissionConquering cancer, mission possible. https://ec.europa.eu/info/publications/conquering-cancer-mission-possible_enDate: September, 2020 Date accessed: February 15, 2021 Google Scholar is part of an extraordinarily powerful tool to inform and allocate resources to national health-care communities and research policies in Europe. The three pillars supporting the proposed Mission on Cancer are to prevent what is preventable, optimise diagnostics and treatment, and support quality of life. Although 1 200 000 European citizens die from cancer a year, increasing survival rates in Europe translate into 12 000 000 cancer survivors. Since being free from cancer does not mean being free from the so-called cancer experience, particular attention is paid to survivorship care in the proposal. The terminology of survivorship is explained in the proposal's footnote, which clarified that “the term ‘survivor’...refers to survivors as well as people living with cancer”. 1 European CommissionConquering cancer, mission possible. https://ec.europa.eu/info/publications/conquering-cancer-mission-possible_enDate: September, 2020 Date accessed: February 15, 2021 Google Scholar We also read that the intention of the mission is to “address the whole cancer control continuum”, including “survivorship support and end-of-life care”. 1 European CommissionConquering cancer, mission possible. https://ec.europa.eu/info/publications/conquering-cancer-mission-possible_enDate: September, 2020 Date accessed: February 15, 2021 Google Scholar
