Abstract

This innovative case study in one urban school of social work connects the dots from the curriculum to the practicum setting, assessing the agency field instructors' view of the adequacy of student preparation for advanced practice. Results support the need for systematic assessment of the fit between curriculum and the actual practice arena, to empower field education directors to better promote a fit between, and integration of, class and field. For example, in this case study, the findings suggest that integration of competencies such as problem solving and ethnic-sensitive interviewing, overshadowed by content on psychotherapy in this advanced practice curriculum, should be fostered.
