Abstract

Objective: The current study examined attitude and behavior related to locally grown ethnic produce among culturally diverse parents of kindergarten through second-grade children. Description: Focus groups and surveys were conducted with Hmong, Latino, and white parents. Evaluation: Study results revealed that parents valued feeding local produce to their children and demonstrated openness to food cultures outside of their cultural groups. Conclusions and Implications: Seven pictorial locally grown ethnic produce recipe cards with a food culture description were developed. Kindergarten through secondgrade children will participate in food demonstrations and tasting activities at 4 schools. Parents will help children make the same recipes at home and will provide feedback on the recipes. Funding: USDA, National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Grant #60518-60520.
