Abstract

The heat transfer characteristics of laminar mixed convection flow over a vertical pin are studied analytically by conjugate convection-conduction theory. Numerical results for the local heat transfer coefficient, local heat flux, efficiency, and temperature distributions of pin under the effects of surface curvature, the buoyancy force parameter and the conjugate convection-conduction parameter, are obtained by solving simultaneously the convective boundary layer equations of the fluid and energy equations of the pin. The results of the present numerical solution have been compared with those of the conventional fin theory. It is found that there is some discrepancy between the pin efficiency and the temperature distribution.
