Abstract

The chapter evaluates the heuristic strategy of using a thought experiment in physics to develop hypotheses in physics—about the shape of the radiation dose-response curve. It shows that deductively valid sets of conjectures, not merely generalizations from data, help clarify scientific hypotheses.
