Abstract
Not long ago, passage of comprehensive federal legislation to strengthen mental health services at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) would have been seen as having little impact on community mental health providers outside of the VA. Now that closer collaboration among the various entities that serve veterans has become more common, the newly adopted Commander John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act is being welcomed as an important initiative for local communities.
