Abstract
A rare congenital anomaly of the central anterior diaphragm is presented. The anomaly consisted of a severe eventration of the septum transversum, and was associated with a cleft lower sternum and congenital heart disease. The pericardium and diaphragm were intact. This anomaly, which can be timed to the seventh week of gestation, is felt to represent a variant of the “pentad syndrome”. It is probably the second such form of this syndrome to appear in the literature.
