Abstract

Congenital broncho biliary fistula (CBBF) is a rare clinical entity in which there is an abnormal communication between the respiratory and biliary tract. Neonate may present with intermittent cyanosis, apnoea, biliptysis and jaundice a few days after birth. Surgical resection of the fistula is definitive treatment. Surgery is performed in lateral position and may require lung isolation. Anesthesia is challenging in neonate with CBBF because of age of the patient, nature of surgery and poor lung condition. Major anesthetic goal is to maintain good ventilation and prevent hypoxemia. Only the points of specific concern in anesthetic management of a neonate with CBBF will be discussed in this chapter.
