Abstract
William Osler, first Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins and Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford, published a volume of biographical essays, An Alabama Student . An examination of those essays reveals Osler's considerable skills as a biographer as well as his frequent failure to resolve the imbalance between their historical and biographical content.
