Abstract

We use the modified Nernst-Plank equation for convection flux to compute the expressions for counter-ion self-diffusion coefficient and hydraulic permeability from electrical conductivity, water transport number and counter-ion concentration in an ion-exchange membrane with a negligible co-ion concentration. We have computed hydraulic permeability and/or counter-ion self-diffusion coefficient, for six ion-exchange membranes. The comparison of experimental and calculated data indicates that the tested equation is not able to describe transport phenomena in the tested ion-exchange membranes.
