Abstract

Intrinsic viscosity vs. composition curves of block copolymers of polyisoprene and polystyrene in a mixed solvent (cyclohexane + n-heptane) show a transition at a critical composition ( γ c ) provided the temperature of the system is above a conformational transition temperature ( T p ) found previously in [η] vs. T plots in the single solvent cyclohexane. The plots of [η] vs. γ at temperature below T p show no such discontinuity. It is proposed that γ c represents the composition of the mixed solvent for which T p is the same as the experimental temperature or a solvent of composition γ c would show a conformational transition T p = T where T is the temperature of the system.
