Abstract
The low-frequency electrical conductivity of poly(L-glutamic acid) in aqueous solutions has been measured during the whole conformational transition from α-helix to random coil, induced by change of pH. The results are compared with the condutivity deduced on the basis of the Manning condensation theory for cylindrical polyelectrolytes and with the Poisson-Boltzmann spherical cell model assuming a simple additive relation ships of the polymer and small ion contribuution. the influence of the molecular weight is discussed
