Abstract

Infrared and Raman spectra in the liquid and crystalline states have been obtained for cyclopropanecarboxylic acid and for cyclopropanecarboxamide. In cyclopropanecarboxylic acid, two conformers are shown to exist in the liquid but only one of these exists in the crystal. In cyclopropanecarboxamide, the cis conformer, which is stable in the crystal, is the only conformer detected in the liquid state. Vibrational assignments are made for the ring modes and for those modes which are sensitive to conformational changes.
