Abstract Solutions to the Einstein equations for spherically symmetric distributions of anisotropic matter are found which admit a one-parameter group of conformal motions and include surface phenomena (thin wall approximation). Two families of solutions represent, respectively, expanding and contracting spheres which asymptotically tend to a static configuration whose surface potential depends upon the surface tension coefficient. The influence of surface tension on the evolution of the boundary is exhibited and discussed. A stable, stationary configuration exists for which the radius equals twice the total mass.
