Abstract

In this paper, a novel design for extending the range of Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) systems is presented. The proposed system is based on a simple and planar loop resonator known as the U-loop. A 60 mm radius U-loop is placed between transmitting (TX) and receiving (RX) elements of a Conformal Strongly Coupled Magnetic Resonance (CSCMR) system. The measured results show that a CSCMR system with U-loop is able to extend the range of optimal performance from 60 mm to 120 mm, which is equivalent to the diameter of the U-loop, while maintaining a Power Transfer Efficiency (PTE) of 73% that is suitable for charging electronic devices.
