Abstract

Professor Freidrich K. Juenger, who chaired the AALS Section on Conflict of Laws when these remarks were given in January 2001, was a devoted member of the American Law Institute. It was always a pleasure to see Fritz at our meetings and hear his wise, witty, and perceptive remarks. In a telephone call before the January meeting, we had a lively conversation, and that spirit carried over into the discussion that he moderated. I was honored to be on Fritz' list of correspondents to whom he sent reprints of his articles, and, when I taught conflict of laws, would regularly consult Fritz' writings when I prepared for class. It is fitting that these essays that address comparative law and the conflict of laws be in Fritz' memory.
