Abstract

A simultaneous optimized locating and sizing of distributed generations (DGs), fast switches (FSs), and directional over-current relays (DOCRs) based on genetic algorithm is performed in this paper. The cost function includes installation and operation costs of DGs, DOCRs and FSs, costs of delivered energy from DGs, delivered energy from upstream grid, energy losses and energy not supplied (ENS) and as well as environmental costs of pollutant emission from DGs and upstream grid. The ENS is in relation with the location of FSs and DOCRs. So their locations directly affect the considered cost function. This paper proposes different locations for the FSs and their related DOCRs. The allowable locations for installing DOCRs are restricted to ensure the correct operation of FSs in fault conditions to preserve the desired islands. The optimization problem is solved for a 33 bus test network. Results confirm the importance of the proposed protection constraint.
