Abstract

Experiments on double free-surface films with thermo-capillary forcing show two basic flow structures at low imposed Marangoni Numbers. Physical reasoning and simple scaling arguments are advanced to show that differences arise on account of the lower velocity gradient in the direction of the imposed temperature gradient. It is reasoned that these results originate from inevitable surface deformations. A restricted numerical model is presented that captures the main features of the flow and lends credence to our reasoning.
