Abstract
ABSTRACT Located on one of the two « western front » of the northern hemisphere, the separation into islands and mainland of the « Arc Atlantique » impose, various restrictions and leads to links between the core and the peripheral areas which favour the coasts. Humidity and sparse woodland are common aspects of the area even if we can distinguish different zones from the centre of the european megalopolis of the borders of the oekoumene. The main natural risks are linkeed to the differences in rainfall and pollution exists even if it is less important than in continental Europe. Finally, growing awareness has been noted recently on the part of citoyens in face of recent changes in the environment and landscape.
