Abstract

The E2 transition rates between low-lying states in 33S have been investigated within various shell model spaces. In addition the groundstate quadrupole moments of sd-shell nuclei have been calculated with pure configurations. The magnitude of the effective charge, which compensates for truncations in the shell model space, has been studied as a function of shell model space for 33S and of mass number for the quadrupole moments.
