Configuration interaction in the L 2,3—MM Auger spectrum of HCl and Ar

Abstract

The L 2,3—MM Auger spectra of HCl and Ar have been calculated. Strong interaction between the Auger diagram state 4σ −2 and correlation states explains the absence of the L 2,3—M 1 2 peak in the HCl spectrum. For argon semi-internal CI reproduces the high-kinetic-energy region, while a fairly large expansion of configurations is necessary to reproduce the low-kinetic-energy part of the spectrum.
